Rain, Rain Go Away!

The trip into Taipei city took an hour by train and by the time we got there we were starving. Bernard's dad took us to a Szechuan restaurant. Am got Ma La noodles, while Bernard got some milder noodles with veggies and Bernard's Dad got spicy beef noodles. In a word: YUM. The side dishes were equally good: tofu, seaweed, bamboo, bok choy and another spicy dish (can't recall the name).

After we finished eating, we went to the eyeglass store to get some new glasses for Bernard, then headed over to Eslite bookstore which is freakin' enormous. This place is a book lover's dream, with 5 floors of pretty much every book you can imagine. We were actually only looking for a Taiwan driving map (haha), though we ended up browsing for awhile. Afterward, we headed for the door and this is what we saw...

Yep, more rain
We decided to kill some more time to give the rain some time to ease up.  We went to the subway level of the Eslite building to shop for a cheap watch for Annemarie.  Well, we got what we bargained for.  The first watch AM picked out didn't work when the saleslady tried to set the time.  Luckily, the second watch was cheaper at $10 and actually worked.  It's even an "El Lite" model - surely for professional use only.

The rain continued for most of the afternoon and only stopped after we got off the train. Oh well. We are hoping we do not face the same weather in Taitung.

Tonight we will have dinner with Bernard's parents, then pack up our belongings and head to bed early. We have to get up at 5:30am to catch the 8am train south to Taitung. As of right now we have standing tickets (no assigned seats) for the first leg ... 3 hours. Uggg. It was all we were able to get, with it being the last weekend before school starts here. We are hoping to be able to snag some open seats once we board!
