Jet Lag

Our flight was pretty uneventful and went by fairly quickly, though neither of us slept for more than an hour or two, max. We arrived in Taipei at 9:30p and the drive to Bernard's parents' place took about an hour. We had a quick snack of wontons and fresh fruit and caught up with the parental units before heading to our flat across the hall.

After settling in, we finally went to sleep around 1a and woke up for good at 5:30a. Yep, 4.5 hours. We both knew that the day was going to be a struggle, but we were determined to make it to at least 9pm. We spent the morning catching up with Bernard's parents and planning the next few days. After Bernard's sister, Bridget and her boyfriend, Harold arrived, Bernard's mom cooked an amazing lunch.

We ate way too much (well, I did anyway) and afterward headed out with Bridget and Harold. Though our day mainly consisted of running errands to get ready for our trip down south, it was great to spend time with them. Unfortunately, it POURED rain for most of the afternoon and evening. Bernard and I escaped into a Starbucks for a quick coffee while Bridget picked up her daughter Mireille from school. We then stopped by to see their new flat before heading out for a late dinner at an Italian restaurant called Mia Cucina. The restaurant was very nice and  the food was muy delish. Bernard and I shared a wild mushroom salad (family-style sized) and each had a "Super Green" smoothie which was very refreshing (we were way too tired to even think about snapping some pics. Sorry!).  After we finished eating, we grabbed a cab back to Danshui and stumbled to bed.

We woke up this morning at 6:30am ... 8 full hours! Yaaay! Hopefully we are now fully recovered :)We just finished a breakfast of bao tzi (red bean buns) and Tzongzi (pork and sticky rice dumplings wrapped in bamboo, kind of like a tamale) and are going to head out for a quick workout in a bit. Today we will do some shopping and eat some more yummy delicious food :) We leave for Taitung early tomorrow morning! Side note: surf report looks promising .. fingers crossed!
