Well, we never did get upgraded (another story) but here is a picture of us that we didn't get a chance to post before boarding.
Bernard and Annemarie at LAX
12/25/2010 1:56pm LAX (12/26/2010 8:56am Sydney)
The flight was pretty uneventful, except for some minor turbulence here and there, and we had a row to ourselves which was nice. We slept for about 5-6 hours and then just read and cat-napped the rest of the way. It was not as bad as we thought it would be and, while we weren't "refreshed" when we landed, we weren't complete zombies either. Of course, it didn't help when this is what we saw when we deplaned...
Welcome to Sydney (rain?!)
Customs was a breeze and they even let us keep some of the snacks that we brought with us. Getting to the domestic terminal to catch our flight to Perth was a little interesting because you actually have to pay to get on the airport bus! So Annemarie had to run around looking for an ATM so we could pay the AUD$5.50 per person fare.
We got to the domestic terminal and checked in to our Virgin Blue flight and everything went smoothly. The flight itself though was tough after flying for 14 hours already we had to fly another 5 to get to Perth. On a small 737. Uggggh. We slept a little but the rest of the time was just counting down the minutes till we landed.
The view upon arriving Perth was much better...
12/25/2010 9:38pm LAX (12/26/2010 1:38pm Perth)
Welcome to Perth (ahh, that's more like it!)
It was hot (32C/90F) and pretty windy when we deplaned, but beautiful! We bumbled around trying to get a taxi for a bit and finally made our way to our hotel, the Parmelia Hilton, for the night. We checked in and took a stroll to find some food. We found a "authentic" British Pub, had some food, and Am sampled a local beer (which she claims was very good).
Enjoying a Hahn Premium Beer
After we finished eating, we strolled around some of the area shops, but most were closed due to the holiday (Boxing Day). We picked up a few things, then headed back to the hotel. It is now 6:30pm and we are struggling to stay awake. Hopefully we will make it to at least 8pm (that's the goal anyway). Tomorrow we will sleep in and enjoy a nice breakfast before heading down to Leeuwin National Park :)
Until next time!

That is a nice looking airport in Perth.. Beer looks good.
Glad to hear the flight wasn't too bad! The weather looks so nice, we had rain again last night:(
Hope you guys have a great time! Beats the rain in SoCal and the snow we got on Xmas day.
